Poor gramer wont get u yur dreem job!

Hello again world,

I would like to add some insight as to how grammatical errors can make or break your chances of landing your dream job.

I my self was no English major in college, in fact I cannot give you a 100% guarantee that this post will not have grammatical errors. I do have insight from industry experts who have informed me of possible blunders that could hurt me. I would like to spread the knowledge.

Every major career resource publication as well as recruiting firm, and HR specialist will tell you that grammatical errors are the worst. Even if it looks like the person is highly qualified for the position they are still going to lose out because they did not “take the time” to look their documents over.

Now when I put “take the time” in quotations, I mean that in all facets of your career search. It could be for networking, as well as pertinent documents like; case studies, reports you have done, resumes, cover letters, and follow ups. Even if there is a rough draft of something that you want to show someone at a prospective company, only send that rough draft if they ask for one. Otherwise it would be assumed that your work is sloppy.

Also, I understand now as an aspiring communications professional, that just having perfect grammar is not enough. The point that you are trying to get across should resonate in the tone of the conversation as well. If you are trying to express gratitude always be polite. However, if you are trying to ask a series of questions you should get straight to the point to avoid any mixed messages.

I myself may suffer from this one as well, but emails do not have to be articulate works of art. There have been many times where I have gotten someone’s info and sat there trying to figure out how I could impress them. This goes back to the point of asking questions, its best to get straight to the point. There is no use using big words to impress someone when you first contact them. People like to see when you have knowledge about their industry, and even more about their company. It shows you may share that same passion about their industry.

Here is another link that has more suggestions. What (Not) to Do

My Next post will be about the event I am attending on Saturday May 30th called Highway to Health. I was going to have a table with the Non-Profit I am voulenteering for but we have had other issues to deal with.
